Conducting Research Involving Human Participants (For PB Students)

All PB student research involving human participants must follow the Research Ethics Review and Approval Process (RERVAP) to ensure ethical standards are met.

Step 1: Complete the PB Research Ethics Form 8B (PBREF8B)

  • Download and complete PB Research Ethics Form 8B (PBREF8B) for your research project.

  • If the project is conducted in a group, only one focal person may complete the form on behalf of the group.
  • All required sections must be filled in completely and accurately.

📌 Use the PB Research Checklist to help ensure the form is properly completed and all required documents are included.

Step 2: Obtain Supervisor and Head of School Approval

  • The completed PBREF8B form must be signed and approved by:
    • Your Research Supervisor, and
    • Your Head of School.

Step 3: Submit to PB Research Committee

  • Email the approved PBREF8B form along with all necessary supporting documents to:
    📧 researchrequest@pb.edu.bn
  • This submission initiates the Research Ethics Review and Approval Process (RERVAP).

Step 4: Wait for RERVAP Outcome

  • The Research Committee will review the submission.
  • You will be notified once your application has been approved or if further clarification is needed.

Step 5: Additional Step for Research Involving External Participants

If your research involves participants from outside Politeknik Brunei:

  • Once you have obtained RERVAP approval, you must request formal approval from the Registrar and Secretary’s Office (RSO).
  • Prepare a formal request letter using the approved RSO Approval Request Template available in LMS.
  • Submit this to the Registrar and Secretary’s Office before proceeding with your research.

✅ Note:

  • RSO approval is only required for research involving external participants.
  • For research involving only PB staff or students, RERVAP approval is sufficient. No further approval from RSO is needed.
