27 July 2026 – In conjunction with World Food Safety Day, 28 students from the Level 5 Diploma in Plant Engineering, Politeknik Brunei (PB), participated in “Developing a Culture of Food Safety in the Next Generation,” a collaborative programme organised by McDonald’s Brunei and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB). The programme commenced with an interactive food safety session at UTB, facilitated by Dr Aida Maryam binti Haji Basri, Assistant Professor from the School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics, before continuing at McDonald’s Lambak, where students gained first-hand exposure to food safety operations, site safety procedures and practical food safety practices through demonstrations and engagement activities.

The programme concluded with an address by the Deputy General Manager of McDonald’s Brunei, Haji Mohammad Munir Syafiq bin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Metassan. The initiative extended students’ learning beyond the classroom by providing valuable industry exposure and reinforcing the learning outcomes of the Communication Skills module. Through their participation, students further developed their presentation and communication skills, enhanced their understanding of food safety practices and were encouraged to promote food safety awareness in their future workplaces and daily lives.
