    Fourty-four (44) students, lecturers and staff from Politeknik Brunei School fo Science and Engineering Lumut Campus recently visited the site of the Tapak Pembinaan Perumahan Lugu, Mukim Sengkurong as part of their Civil Engineering programme curriculum activities.


    The first year students under the Civil Engineering programme offered by Politeknik Brunei were given the opportunity to enhance their knowledge further through the exposure on the real scenario of construction works of cluster type housing units. During the visit, they were briefed by the Housing Development Department, Ministry of Development officer and staff together with the awarded contractors on the construction methods and design aspects involving the design concept, substructure and superstructure processes as well as material usage for the construction of the 1000 cluster type housing units. On the innovative side of the construction work of the house, one of the Housing Development Department’s Project Engineer highlighted that the contractor has used aluminium formwork as an innovative method to do on-site concreting work in much safer, quality and faster way of casting the concrete panel as it is lighter, durable and can be repeatedly used up to a minimum of 500 times compare to a conventional timber formwork.



    These educational visits are aimed to help students to be able to relate what they have learnt in their ‘Construction Technology’ module offered under Politeknik Brunei’s Civil Engineering Level 5 Diploma programme. The programme has been been introduced under the School of Science and Engineering based at the Politeknik Brunei Lumut satellite campus and is conducted for 3 years inclusive of a six (6) months industrial attachment at the end of the programme.
