POLITEKNIK Brunei students must fulfil the attendance requirement of the institution as failing to do so will lead to the failure of a module in the last semester or ruin the chance of a student in obtaining diploma certificate in the third and final year.

This was stated by Denis Ho Mun Tai, Acting Director of Politeknik Brunei (PB) during the institution’s orientation week for the 6th intake of the 2016/2017 academic session at the International Convention Centre.

He also reminded the 815 students to work hard in their studies as the certification policy only allows one chance to repeat in the same module during the whole duration of the course.

The acting director added that the results of first year students for the July 2015 intake showed that a number of students have been terminated from their respective courses on the basis of the said certification policy.

“For this intake, as many as 21 Level 4 and 5 Diploma courses will be conducted in three locations. The Level 5 business and ICT courses will be conducted at the School of Business and School of Information and Communication Technology at the Ong Sum Ping Campus, the Level 5 science and engineering courses will be conducted at the Lumut Campus, while Level 4 health sciences courses will be conducted at the Institute of Health Sciences Universiti Brunei Darussalam,” he said.

The courses in Politeknik Brunei, he explained, “are conducted according to the needs of the industries to develop the economy of the country”.

Students were also briefed on registration, examinations, the enrichment module by the centre for student development and innovation, health, security and environment, students’ services and etiquette, and academic matters.

The new intake also attended a financial literacy talk delivered by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam.
