    Politeknik Brunei, through its Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CiTL), today held its inaugural industry-student engagement forum and seminar entitled “Global Skills: Opportunity for a brighter future” at the Institute of Health Science, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Jalan Tungku.



    The forum officiated with an opening ceremony graced by Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad, Legislative Council Member of Brunei Darussalam. Also in attendance were Mr Denis Ho Mun Tai, Director of Politeknik Brunei, Awang Alias bin Hj Abu Bakar, Assistant Director of Politeknik Brunei, as well as Heads of Departments and Schools from Politeknik Brunei.



    The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah followed by a welcoming remark by Yang Mulia Mr. Denis Ho Mun Tai, the Director of Politeknik Brunei, and a keynote speech from Yang Berhormat Awang Iswandy bin Ahmad. The event followed with a forum by four (4) key forum panel speakers from Darussalam Entreprise (DARe), Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), and Department of Agriculture and Agrifood from the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The guest honour later on presented tokens of appreciation to the invited panel speakers and seminar. In the afternoon, the event continued with seminars conducted by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and Ameen Farm.



    The forum was attended by more than 150 students mainly from Politeknik Brunei, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan, Institut Pengajian Teknikal Brunei (IBTE), Laksamana College of Business, International Graduate Studies College (IGS), Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology, and Micronet International College.


    The forum aimed to raise awareness and highlight the economic and employment trends and issues in the local and global economic sectors and industries, to identify the global skills necessary to enhance graduates’ employability and marketability as well as to disseminate information on the development of skills necessary to be competitive in the current job market.


    This year’s inaugural forum and seminar is entitled ‘Global Skills: Opportunity for a brighter future.’ The theme aimed to highlight the economic and employment issues and trends affecting local and global economic sectors and industries, development of skills pertaining to industrial revolution 4.0, and how these issues and trends would affect graduates and students and their employability. The panel also discussed how graduates could enhance job marketability by acquiring relevant global skills and find economic opportunities through trends and projections in local economic industry sectors.


    One of the key strategic programmes of Politeknik Brunei’s Five Year Development Plan 2015-2020 (5YDP 2015-2020) is to promote global education. Politeknik Brunei recognizes the importance of providing education that places emphasises on global skills, positive universal values, fostering tolerance and understanding, and promoting mutually beneficial international relationships.
