As technology is constantly changing, lecturers could not just sit back and teach 'old' and obsolete technologies. With the support of the Programme Advisory Committee members (PAC) who are experts from the relevant industries (both private and public sector), the School of Science and Engineering continue (and will continue to do so) to develop relevant programmes to fulfil the demands and expectation of the 21st century. More importantly, they are designed to ensure that the gap between engineering education and practice is minimal.

Innovative approach to teaching and learning are carefully crafted; for example with the use of Moodle platform. Coupled together with both hands-on and theory-based learning, students will experience exciting and engaging setting which will produced to encourage innovation and teamwork skills.

The School of Science and Engineering is in the process of obtaining accreditation from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) UK. By collaborating with the Department of Quality Assurance (QA), QA processes are developed and implemented to ensure that the programmes are continually improving and in line with the latest guidance and good practice. Accreditation provides benchmarking against other accredited programmes and affirms the reputation of the School of Science and Engineering as a quality provider of engineering education.

The combination of outstanding teaching staff and commitment from the students, the School of Science and Engineering can produce leaders of tomorrow, who can meet the needs of the industry, in terms of having socio-technical competencies (for example; hands-on, theoretical, and social settings).

Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering

The aim of the programme is to produce innovative, skillful and marketable graduates.

The objectives of the programme are to:

  • Equip students with technical knowledge and skills in Electrical and Electronic Engineering on par with industry requirement.

​Diploma in Architecture

The Diploma in Architecture is a three (3) year diploma programme with 6 semesters, including six (6) months of internship programme and six (6) months Final Year Project (FYP). The programme is tailored for Bruneian and International students who have the prerequisite skills in architecture which are needed in the industry. This diploma programme is designed to cater to the industry's needs and demands. Module learning and critique sessions are based on collaborations with industry experts.


This programme is designed to produce graduates who can develop their creative and innovative skills using the best technological tools in building designs.

The focus of the programme is not only to develop them as students, but also to inspire their growth into a skilled and intellectual architectural designer and technologist.


  • To provide exploratory learning environment that values critical and creative thinking in a hands-on studio.
  • To equip students with the fundamentals of architecture design processes and practices through project work and out-of-classroom learning sessions.
  • To study different building techniques, material, ecology, sustainability and other factors that impacts the technical design of buildings.

To enhance presentation skills and proficiency in the use of processes such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Computer Aided Design.

Diploma in Interior Design

Aims and objectives of the Programme:

This programme is designed to develop and nurture students' creative and innovative skills using the best technological tools in building designs.

The focus of this programme is not only to develop them as design students and critical thinker, but to inspire their growth into skilled and intellectual architectural technologists.

The objectives of this programme are:

  • To provide exploratory hands-on learning environment that values critical and creative thinking;
  • To equip students with the fundamentals of architecture design processes and practices through project work and out of classroom learning sessions;
  • To provide insights on different building techniques, material and factors that impact technical design of buildings;
  • To use computer modelling tools to present design ideas.

​Diploma in Petroleum Engineering

The Diploma in Petroleum Engineering programme aims to develop students' capacity in applying learning principles and practices in the real working environment safely and efficiently. There is a significant amount of practical work and projects which are essential to produce skilled and competent candidates for future employment in the Oil and Gas Industry and related industries. The Programme is also designed to provide graduates with opportunity to further their studies in related areas.

The general aim of the programme is to provide training of the higher technician/ para professional personnel for deployment in the Mechanical Engineering industry in Brunei Darussalam.

The Objectives of the programme are to produce graduates who are able to:

  • Practise engineering in fields of design, research, development, testing, and manufacturing through the application of fundamental knowledge, skills, and tools of mechanical engineering;
  • Enhance their skills through education, training and professional development;
  • Able to work independently as well as communicate effectively with others within the Engineering profession.
  • Progress to degrees or certificate programmes in engineering, business, and other professionally related fields.

​Diploma in Telecommunication and System Engineering

This diploma programme provides advanced education to develop knowledge and expertise in the engineering of telecommunication network and systems associated with all aspects of voice and data communication systems.


It is a dynamic and rapidly developing field as a result of today's reliance on the Internet, cellphones, broadband, wireless networks, wired and optical transmission systems, broadcasting, satellite applications as well as some aspects of computer programming.


The aims of Telecommunications and Systems Engineering are to:

  • provide students with opportunities to gain a thorough knowledge of current practice in the areas of Electronic Communication, and to acquire specialised knowledge in areas relevant to the engineering community in Brunei Darussalam;
  • develop students' understanding of the fundamental principles of engineering, which will enable them to respond positively to the demands created by future changes in technology;
  • offer students intellectual and social challenges to promote development of skills and personal qualities essential to the working world;
  • build a close relationship with engineering organisations, and to produce technician engineers of the right caliber.

This programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required in the civil engineering industry performing a wider-range roles and tasks at the higher technician level.


By the end of the programme, students should be able to:

  • Communicate effectively in the contexts of civil engineering or in construction management.
  • Perform drafting tasks associated with civil engineering design and construction.
  • Utilise computer-aided drafting systems and design packages.
  • Recognise the interaction between civil engineering projects and the impacts on the physical and social environments.

​Diploma in Science Technology

This programme is designed with the intention to produce graduates who have the essential skills and knowledge, capable in carrying out various laboratory analysis and practical works independently.

Among other things, our graduates should be able to:

  • Calibrate, prepare and operate various laboratory tools and equipment for analysis.
  • Perform a variety of laboratory testing and analysis in chemistry and microbiology laboratories.
  • Implement good laboratory practices.
  • Understand Quality Control and Quality Management in clinical, pharmaceutical and food science laboratories.

Diploma in Chemical Engineering​

Level 5 Diploma in Chemical Engineering is a new programme offered by Politeknik Brunei under the School of Science and Engineering, in collaboration with Hengyi Industries Sdn. Bhd,

  • To equip students with knowledge and technical skills in petrochemical field.
  • The main aim of this programme is to be in line with Wawasan 2035 to produce highly skilled graduates with opportunities to be part of Hengyi Industries as future Petrochemical Operators.
  • Joint venture between government of Brunei Darussalam and Zhejiang Hengyi Group
  • Brunei's first world-class oil refinery & aromatics complex
  • Require high demand of local workforce to support the petrochemical operation in Brunei Darussalam.
