PB STUDENTS SHINE AT INTERNATIONAL SMOGC 2017

DELEGATES from Politeknik Brunei (PB) led by Haji Muhammad Reizal bin Muhammad Ali, Ahmad Bukhari bin Haji Emran and Haji Abdul Muiz bin Haji Matali from the Petroleum Engineering Department, participated in the SPE Malaysia Oil and Gas Convention 2017 (SMOGC 2017) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The event was organised by SPE Student Chapters in Malaysia comprising SPE-UTM SC and SPE Heriot-Watt SC.
The competition was divided into two categories – Oil Rig Design and Petrobrain. Siti Nurhidayah Akmal binti Haji Wahid, Nurul Farhanah binti Haji Jadid and Siti Nur Alyana Syaqinah binti Abdul Rahman, representatives from PB won second place in the Petrobrain competition.
The representatives tested their skills and knowledge in a fast-paced quiz on technical and non-technical questions related to oil and gas industry against top universities from Malaysia, Indonesia, India and Vietnam.
The Oil Rig Design Team comprising four Diploma in Petroleum Engineering students – Muhammad Afiq Sufi bin Abu Sufyan, Corine Lim, Fazrina binti Tuah and Muhammad Ashraf Fuad bin Muhammad Nizamuddin, obtained fourth place. The group’s oil rig was, named ‘Himaya’, is an Arabic word for protection.
The event brought together students and experts in oil and gas industry to exchange experiences, ideas and solutions regarding oil and gas problems. It also sought to strengthen ties among students and industry experts.
