POLITEKNIK BRUNEI 2ND CONVOCATION CEREMONY

Politeknik Brunei this morning successfully organized its 2nd Convocation Day at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. 325 graduates (143 male students and 182 female students) from the 3rd intake of the academic year 2013 will be receiving their Advanced Diploma certificates during the ceremony. The students had attended their 2 years academic session undertaking various programmes offered by the Politeknik Brunei’s School of Business, School of Information Communication and Technology (ICT), and School of Science and Engineering. The Advanced Diploma which will be received by the students are recognized by the Ministry of Education through the National Accreditation Council as equivalent to the BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) qualification.
The Convocation Ceremony started with the procession of students and the main procession of the Board of Governors, Senate members, main officers and lecturers of Politeknik Brunei followed by arrival of the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education into the Chancellor Hall.
The ceremony started with the recital of the Al Quran verses by Awangku Adi Nazri bin Pengiran Haji Jofri from the School of Business, Student from Intake 5 who was also the 2nd runner-up in the 7th South-East Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition 2015.
The ceremony was followed by an opening remark by the Acting Director of Politeknik Brunei, Awang Denis Ho Mun Tai as the Chairman of the Working Committee of the Convocation Ceremony. The ceremony was later honoured by the speech by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, Minister of Education.
The main highlight of the day was the Convocation Award ceremony presented by the Minister of Education. From the total of 325 graduates, 204 students received their Advanced Diploma award in Business programmes, 97 in ICT Advanced Diploma programmes, and 24 in Science and Engineering programmes.
The ceremony was also entertained by tausyeh and gulingtangan performances. The ceremony also witnessed the ceremony award of five (5) best students, as follows:
The ceremony ended with a Doa Selamat read by Awang Haji Azrol Alim bin Haji Zaini, officer from the Department of Mosque Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Among those attended the Convocation ceremony were Yang Mulia Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education as the Chairman of Politeknik Brunei’s Board of Governors, Yang Mulia Dr Hj Junaidi bin Hj Abdul Rahman, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) as the Deputy Chairman of PB’s Board of Governors, members of PB’s Board of Governors, Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Head of Departments and Senior Officers of the Ministry of Education as well as parents, guardians and families of the graduates.
Background Information on the 1st Convocation Ceremony
The 1st Convocation Ceremony was previously held at the same venue on the 15th January 2015, where 582 graduates from the 1st and 2nd intake received their Advanced Diploma in various fields from Politeknik Brunei.
Activities Held in Conjunction with Politeknik Brunei 2nd Convocation Ceremony
In conjunction with Politeknik Brunei 2nd Convocation Day, Politeknik Brunei hosted a number of events such as the Majlis Khatam Al Quran ceremony for the graduates and Karnival Konvo Politeknik Brunei 2016.
The Majlis Khatam Al Quran ceremony was held at the Suri Seri Begawan Mosque at Kg Madang, Manggis, where about 181 graduates complete their Al Quran ceremony on the afternoon of Wednesday, 13th January 2016.
The Karnival Konvo Politeknik Brunei 2016, as part of a celebration for the graduates, was also organized at the Parking Area of Jalan Bendahara, Bandar Seri Begawan (opposite the Royal Regalia Building) from the 15th January to the 19th January 2016. The programmes scheduled include exhibitions and showcases, cultural shows and performances, mini fairs, as well as food stalls and retail booths.
Background Information on Politeknik Brunei
The technical education transformation is a timely response towards the reality of the local and global economic landscape that are constantly changing which affect the current and future skilled workforce needs of the nation. Beginning from the July 2015 intake, Politeknik Brunei offers 3-years diploma programmes to students with a minimum of 5 GCE ‘O’ Level credits based on relevant subjects requirements and also to students with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) qualifications.
A total of twenty-one (21) programmes are currently offered by Politeknik Brunei. Eighteen (18) Level 5 Diploma programmes, equivalent to Higher National Diploma (HND), are offered under the Politeknik Brunei’s three schools, i.e. School of Business, School of ICT and School of Science and Engineering, and another three (3) Level 4 Diploma in Health Sciences programmes, equivalent to Ordinary National Diploma (OND), are also offered.
Politeknik Brunei, based in Bandar Seri Begawan, has recently opened its new satellite campus in Lumut for its Science and Engineering Level 5 Diploma programmes students. Among the Level 5 programmes being offered at the Lumut campus are Diploma in Engineering (in specialized fields), Diploma in Petroleum Engineering, Diploma in Science Technology, Diploma in Interior Design and Diploma in Architecture.
